By Air Several major airlines serve Marrakech's Menara airport. The cheapest airline is currently Atlas Blue (www.atlas-blue.com) who are a subsidiary of Royal Air Maroc and who operate services from Gatwick Airport and several other European cities. Look out also for Easy Jet (www.easyjet.com) who have recently announced a new service to Marrakech. Other airlines include British Airways (www.ba.com), Royal Air Maroc (www.royalairmaroc.com) and Air France (www.airfrance.com) You can also sometimes find cheap flights at travel sites such as Expedia (www.expedia.co.uk) or Opodo (www.opodo.com). Overland Many people choose to travel overland to Marrakech, making the crossing by ferry to Tangiers across the Straits of Gibraltar. The principal crossing points in Spain are in Algeciras and Tarifa. There are also ferry services from Gibraltar. The train journey from Tangiers to Marrakech is approximately 8 hours. Trains are generally an affordable and reliable way of travelling within Morocco. GETTING TO RIAD AL IDRISI From the airport (or train station) take a Petite Taxi (Small Taxi) to "La Mosqué de Bab Doukkala" (The Mosque of Bab Doukkala). This should cost you around 50 Dirhams. Make sure you agree the price before getting into the taxi. If the driver attempts to charge you substantially more, it is almost certainly worth haggling - they will expect it! The taxi should leave you outside the main entrance to the Mosque. With the main entrance to the Mosque on your right, follow the road around to the right and then continue straight onwards along a pedestrian-only alley. After about 15 yards, you will come onto a small street lined with shops. Cross over (slightly to the right) and go into another pedestrian-only alley underneath an archway with a sign saying "Derb Sidi Lmassenou Ali ". Follow this alley way (it turns left fairly soon and then wends its way broadly in the same direction after that) until you come to the second turning on the left. If you are looking down the correct turning, you should see a sort of bridge joining the buildings on either side of the alley. Follow this alley for about 10 yards. You will come to a little square. Riad Al Idrisi is immediately on your right. It sounds complicated but isn't really!! We will give you Oufa's mobile telephone number and she will be only too pleased to come and find you if you need any help. We can also arrange for someone to meet you at the airport. If you would like us to do this, please let us know and we will let you know the cost involved.
