Within a few minutes of leaving Riad Al Idrisi, you are in the bustling heart of Marrakech's old town with a wealth of markets, cafés, restaurants, mosques, old city walls and other marvels.

Getting to Marrakech

By Plane

Several airlines serve Marrakech's Menara airport including:

Overland

Many people choose to travel overland to Marrakech, making the crossing by ferry to Tangiers across the Straits of Gibraltar. The principal crossing points in Spain are in Algeciras and Tarifa. There are also ferry services from Gibraltar.

The train journey from Tangiers to Marrakech is approximately 8 hours. Trains are generally an affordable and reliable way of travelling within Morocco.

Getting to Riad Al Idrisi once you are in Marrakech

If you are using our Airport Transfer Service (which we highly recommend), the driver will call ahead to Riad staff who will meet you outside the Bab Doukkala Mosque which is located just before the start of the pedestrian-only zone where Riad Al Idrisi is situated.  Our staff member (almost certainly either Mohammed or Hassan) will then accompany you to the Riad.

If you are making your own way to the Riad, you should similarly navigate your way to the front of Bab Doukkala Mosque on Rue Fatima Zohra.  It is a substantial landmark and any taxi driver will be able to find it without any difficulty.  Once you are there, follow the directions below to Riad Mur Akush and a staff member (almost certainly Mohammed or Hassan) will then accompany you to Riad Al Idrisi (a short walk away).

Walking from Bab Doukkala Mosque to Riad Al Idrisi

When you are out exploring Marrakech, you should always aim to return to the Bab Doukkala Mosque.  This is a substantial landmark in Marrakech and the Riad is only a short walk away from it.

With the main entrance to the Mosque on your right, follow the road around to the right and then continue straight onwards along a pedestrian-only alley. After about 15 yards, you will come onto a small street lined with shops. Cross over (slightly to the right) and go into another pedestrian-only alley underneath an archway with a sign saying "Derb Sidi Lmassenou Ali ".

Follow this alleyway (it turns left fairly soon and then wends its way broadly in the same direction after that) until you come to the second turning on the left. If you are looking down the correct turning, you should see a sort of bridge joining the buildings on either side of the alley. Follow this alley for about 10 yards. You will come to a little square. Riad Al Idrisi is immediately on the right.

Walking from Bab Doukkala Mosque to Riad Mur Akush

Riad Al Idrisi will have a staff member on-site 24 hours-a-day during your stay.  The site is run in partnership with the nearby Riad Mur Akush and, for your peace of mind (although you should have no need to go there), you might like to know where Riad Mur Akush is located.  Riad Mur Akush is a larger Riad and also has staff who can also help you should you encounter any problems.  It takes approximately 5 minutes to walk there from Riad Al Idrisi.

If you stand at the entrance to the Bab Doukkala Mosque and look a little to the right on the opposite side of the road, you will see a little alley/street called “Derb Zaouia” on the Rue Fatima Zohra.  Enter the derb and take the first alley on your right. The Riad is within about 20 meters, on the right-hand side. Derb Zaouia No 2.  The Riad is signposted, making it very easy to find.
